Rev. Christopher S. Esget, Pastor

The Reverend Christopher S. Esget has served as Immanuel's Pastor since 2001. He is married to Kassie, and they have one son, James. He is the author of (Dis)Ordered: Lies about Human Nature and the Truth That Sets Us Free (Concordia Publishing House, 2023). You can read his sermons and other writings at Esgetology.
Pastor Esget is the Fifth Vice-President of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (East-Southeast Region; 2015 – present). He is a contributing author to The Gates of Hell: Confessing Christ in a Hostile World (CPH, 2018) and Words of Strength and Promise: Devotions for Youth (CPH 2021).
Before coming to Immanuel, Pastor Esget served at Bethel Lutheran Church, DuQuoin, IL, where he was ordained in 1998. He attended Concordia Theological Seminary (Fort Wayne, IN) where he earned the Master of Divinity degree (1997, concentration in systematic theology) and the Master of Sacred Theology degree (2005, major in systematic theology, minor in church history). His STM thesis was a comparison of the doctrine of original sin in Patristic and contemporary Eastern Orthodox theology.
Pastor Esget's undergraduate degree is from Berklee College of Music (Summa cum laude 1993, with an emphasis in film scoring). He also studied classical piano performance at the University of Minnesota.

Stephanie Mekonen holds a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
In the D.C. area, she performs regularly as a hired soloist, is a member of the Washington Master Chorale, and maintains a private voice studio. She previously served as cantor at The Church of the Little Flower in Bethesda.
Stephanie and her husband Yonas live in Alexandria along with their five beautiful children.
Sherry T. Graveson, Organist

Sherry T. Graveson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Organ Performance and Music Education from West Virginia University. She also studied organ at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland and is Colleague of the American Guild of Organists. Currently, she is an organ student of Jeremy Filsell. She is a staff accompanist at the Little Theater of Alexandria.
Sherry is the associate organist at the Basilica of St. Mary in Old Town Alexandria and has been the organist at First Baptist Church, Alexandria for over twenty years. Sherry currently teaches private piano lessons here at Immanuel. She and her husband George live in Alexandria with their three children Matthew, Timothy and Abigail.
