Music at Immanuel

Music in the praise of God is a vital part of Immanuel’s life. Congregational singing is led by the gifted organist Sherry Graveson. Piano, along with string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments are also a regular part of our services.

Our Adult Choir, directed by Stephanie Mekonen, ordinarily rehearses Tuesday evenings 7:00-8:30pm. Open to 7th graders and older.

The Bach Collegium is a select chamber ensemble that features a Bach chorale each Sunday from the appointed cantata for the liturgical day.

The Sunday School choir rehearses during the first portion of Sunday School on Sunday mornings for all enrolled in Sunday School, and sings in Divine Service 4-5 times throughout the year.

The Immanuel Concert Series presents a concert at minimum once per year. These concerts feature our Adult Choir and other professional musicians and focus around a major sacred choral work. The aim of these concerts is to provide our community with excellent music, free of charge, in a time frame suitable for young children and families. Recent concerts have featured Te Deum (Dvořák), Requiem (Fauré), and The Seven Last Words of Christ (Dubois). Concert videos are posted below.

Music at Immanuel is joyously reverent. Steeped in the ancient traditions of liturgical chant, our musicians and singers are at home with Reformation-era song, the great Baroque tradition with the greatest Lutheran composer, J.S. Bach, along with modern composers of sacred music.
